Peru - Bolivia - Chile

Why you'll love this trip

You will discover the giant desert inscriptions of the Nazca Lines which are one of Peru's great unsolved mysteries. See them up close on foot or treat yourself to a bird's eye view from an unforgettable scenic flight.

Experience a memorable night with a local family on Lake Titicaca, taking you right to the heart of island traditions.

Consider extending your stay in Bolivia to peer through the shop windows of the Witches’ Market in La Paz, witnessing a world of unique, curative traditions.

The landscapes of Salar de Uyuni are so unique they’re almost extra-terrestrial. Embark on a three-day adventure via 4WD across the rocky Atacama Desert and the largest salt lakes in the world - passing cactus islands, train cemeteries and mineral lakes teeming with flamingos.

From diverse landscapes to deep-rooted cultures and contrasting destinations, this trip covers a lot of ground across South America in a relatively short period of time.

Is this adventure right for you?

  • This trip involves a lot of travel on local buses, including some long trips and an overnight bus. Bus travel can be exhausting, but is also a great opportunity to relax, rub shoulders with the locals and enjoy the scenery.

  • While in the Andean Desert, you’ll reach altitudes of up to 4,900m. La Paz, and Uyuni  have high altitudes too. Even at 2,900m above sea level, the air is a lot thinner and it can take a bit of time to adjust. Some people aren’t affected at all, but if you are, be sure to drink plenty of water and take it easy.

  • Making your way across the Andean Desert and salt flats isn’t exactly luxurious. There will be long travel days spent in 4WDs on dusty and bumpy tracks. Temperatures in the area can be very cold, especially at night, so bring warm clothes with you. Meals are simple, toilet facilities are basic, showers can be cold and the multi-share accommodation is dormitory-style. This is all part of the adventure. Without a doubt, this amazing experience will be one of the highlights of your trip to South America.

  • Bolivia is the least developed and most challenging country you’ll travel around during this trip. Facilities are basic and food might be simpler than what you’re used to. Transportation between different locations can be slow and isn’t as easy as it might be in developed countries. Yet this is all part of the ‘off-the-beaten-track’ charm and adventure that makes Bolivia such a great place to visit.

Day 0 - Arriving in Lima

Welcome to Lima!

Today you'll meet our trip leader in Miraflores, Lima. You'll receive all information about the hotel and time 3-4 weeks before the trip. If you want to spent more time in Lima we recommended you to arrive 1-2 days before this date.

Day 1 - Lima to Huacachina

It is assumed that on the first day you must be ready for the adventure! We will wake up early this morning and we will drive directly to Paracas, a beautiful small town by the sea. Here we'll take boat tour of the Ballestas Islands. The Ballestas are a smaller version of the Galapagos, but just as great, where you’ll see sea lions, penguins and lots of birds all in there natural habitat.

We will return to Paracas from where we will be transferred to Huacachina, where we will explore the only desert oasis in South America. Huacachina is built around a small natural oasis in the desert. Called the "oasis of America," it serves as a resort for local families from the nearby city of Ica, and increasingly as an attraction for tourists drawn by the sports of sand-boarding and taking dune buggy rides on sand dunes that stretch several hundred feet high. Also the atmosphere in Huacachina is very laid back.

After you'll receive the keys for your room, we'll have two hours of dune buggying and sand-boarding – Ride the dune buggies up and sand-board down the biggest dunes in South America. A once in a lifetime experience in the only natural desert oasis in South America.

Day 2 - Huacachina to Nazca

After breakfast you'll be transferred from Huacachina to Nazca airport for a flight above the Nazca lines.

Declared "Cultural World Heritage Site" by UNESCO (1994), Nazca lines are located in the arid Peruvian coastal plain. The geoglyphs of Nazca and the pampas of Jumana cover about 450 sq. Km. These lines, which were scratched on the surface of the ground between 500 B.C. and A.D. 500, are among archaeology's greatest enigmas because of their quantity, nature, size and continuity. The geoglyphs depict living creatures, stylized plants and imaginary beings, as well as geometric figures several kilometers long. They are believed to have had ritual astronomical functions. In order to appreciate the lines in all its magnitude, it is only possible from an airplane in flight.

After this amazing unique experience you'll be transferred back to Huacachina and from here we will drive back to Lima.
